UBM Principles
UBM exists that God may be glorified and souls saved. The three principles that have guided UBM from the very start are enshrined in Jesus' summary of the whole law of God: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… and love your neighbour as yourself…" Luke 10:27.
The three principles based on this and that have stood the test of time are:
Love for
the Lord
UBM puts a priority on personal and team Bible reading and prayer, every day. The Lord has particularly set apart one day per week for Himself, to be kept holy both individually and as a team. By doing these things we can look to God to bless.
His Word: Our policy is that at the start of each day all the team spend time prayerfully reading God's word for themselves and asking His blessing for the day ahead. The team will also meet for corporate prayer and Bible study every day.
His Day: Sunday is the opportunity for fellowship, with one another and with local Christians who support the work. God says that those who honour His day will be blessed. Our policy is to mark it as separate by resting from some of the things that we do on other days.
Love for
EachOther
There is great strength in the united witness of people of different ages and backgrounds. UBM asks that team members go out of their way to show love to one another, to be considerate to one another and not cause offence or be a hindrance. We do this by:
- Praying for and helping each other in the daily activities of the team;
- Respecting members of the opposite sex by avoiding casual flirtation,
and being modest in our dress;
- Refraining from smoking, alcoholic drink and avoiding extremes
of fashion or hairstyle.
- Caring for the health, safety and well being of team members;
- Promoting team unity by avoiding divisive debate;
- Supporting the team leader; respecting and accepting his authority.
Love for
the Lost
To reach the lost effectively with the gospel, we need to have a sacrificial love for them, just as our Saviour did. We therefore place emphasis on the time we spend befriending and sharing the gospel as part of a united team.
Team members will be given on-the-job training in personal and team evangelism. Team members share in corporate and personal evangelism and are expected to attend all activities, and to seek opportunities to show love and friendship to those we are trying to reach.
To obtain the trust and respect of families on the beach, you are expected to wear your uniform in a professional manner and to be sensitive and respectful to all.
