About
The founders of UBM first joined a beach team in 1950 in Rhyl and then went to Blackpool in 1951 and 1952 before being asked to start in Llandudno in 1953. And for many, this is the place where the work really commenced and indeed still continues! Within a few years the Llandudno Beach Team was operating in Skegness, Leysdown, Douglas, Paignton and Broadstairs and so the name United Beach Missions was born. Today the beach work is rununder the operating name ‘the Beach Team.’ Not long after, the work in Ireland and the Continent started and in the early 70s our first non-beach team began in Speakers’ Corner, London.
60 years on, and we continue to share the good news of Jesus. Today UBM operates in about 35 locations in England, Wales, Ireland and Continental Europe. The work on the Continent is called MV which, depending on the country,is short for Missions Vacances (France and Belgium), Missione Vacanze (Italy), Misiones de Verano (Spain) and Missões de Verão (Portugal).
UBM provides a great opportunity for Christians to serve, whether old or young, extrovert or quiet. All that is required is a desire to share the Gospel. UBM is a great way of reaching people today, but more than this your faith will grow as you share fellowship in God's work.
In terms of worker weeks, the equivalent of between 25 and 30 years missionary effort is expended on teams each summer. And every year there are many who profess faith in Christ while others still search and remain in contact with team members through UBM's follow-up support system. Countless conversations are had with people from all over the world about Christ and after every summer about 450 children sign up for the Postal Bible Club.
The people who make up UBM teams are all committed Christians, who are giving their time voluntarily to tell people about the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Who can go
UBM wouldn't be able to operate without team members! Every year about 900 volunteers give a week or more to man around 90 weeks of mission throughout the summer. We need that figure to be nearer 1,000 so that we can increase the size of teams and expand the work in future.
Anyone who has trusted Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and believes the Bible to be the word of God, the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct is welcome to apply. Previous experience or special abilities are not necessary. There is a place on a Beach Team no matter what your previous experience has been.
Team members must agree to our doctrinal position and principles of operation and will need to give a name of a pastor or church leader for a reference.
The minimum age for joining a team is 15 (17 for Christian Answer teams) by 31st August of the year of mission. There is no upper age limit and those in their 80s have been known to join teams! Families can be accommodated at a few of our centres (for more details please contact the office).
Previous experience or special abilities are not necessary. There is a place on a team no matter what your previous experience has been.
