Team Info

Besides accepting our doctrinal basis and the principles on which we operate, there are other practicalities for joining a beach team. How do I get to a centre? What do I bring? Who else is on the team?

On acceptance to a UBM team you will be sent (usually via email) important information and policies which must be read before you arrive.

Our policies are practical ways of working out our principles that allow brothers and sisters in Christ to work together, neither causing offence to one nor compromising another.  Below is some key information with some of the key policies which you can open or download.

accommodation

We usually stay in church halls, but please read the individual information for each centre for more details.

Low cost family accommodation or caravan space is available at some resorts. Please contact the UBM office for further details. Accommodation details and directions will be sent after your application is accepted.

what to bring

Team members need to bring a sleeping bag and an air/camp bed or something to put it on (except at Llandudno, New Quay, St Ives and the women at Benllech where beds are provided). You will also need to bring a Bible (plus a cheaper pocket one for the beach), notebook and pen. For Christian Answer teams, a warm waterproof coat can be useful! If you have a musical instrument and can play it please bring it along.

fees

There is an annual membership fee which is paid at the time of booking. Fees for each week of mission are then paid at the centre - in cash if possible. For MV missions this should be in the local currency (€). Note: No annual membership fee is required if you are just doing Avancer missions and the cost of these weeks of missions is minimal and can be advised separately.

The membership fee is £37 (or €45). The weekly fee is £50 (€60) for the 1st week,  £40 (€50) for the 2nd week reducing to £20 (€30) for third and subsequent weeks. Fees for Christian Answer missions are variable depending upon the length of mission, but work out at about £9 per day or part thereof. PLEASE DO NOT bring large sums of money or unnecessary costly items as we have had thefts in the past.

Is Finance an issue?

Our aim is to make coming on a UBM team as minimal a cost as we can. Based on the above amounts, 30% of UBM’s running costs are met through the membership fee and weekly team fees. The rest comes from donations.

If you are unable to meet the costs of either the membership fee or weekly team fees, then please do not let this stop you coming. Pay what you can (minimum £15/€18 membership fee and minimum £25/€35 weekly team fees).

arrival

For Beach Teams the missions run from Saturday to Saturday and it is vital to arrive at the centre before 5pm. This helps the team to get to know each other quickly and settle in. A team meeting is held, usually around 6pm, to lay the guidelines for the work; you should aim to be there right at the start if you can so that you do not miss out on any important information.

child protection

Anyone applying for a Beach Team will need to go through enhanced DBS disclosure. Team members serving on Christian Answer teams only, or similar missions in foreign jurisdictions, will not be required to undertake Disclosure checks.
