Overview
After around a 10-year break, United Beach Missions (UBM) was invited to return to Scarborough for a week’s mission in 2017. Since UBM were last in Scarborough, the North Bay, where we operate, has been redeveloped with a series of luxury beach chalets bringing families to the sands each day throughout their week’s holiday. The North Bay has a wide expanse of good quality sand and is popular with bathers, families, and a variety of water sports enthusiasts. It is a quieter family beach than the more commercialised South Bay. Over the past few years we have developed a programme that comprises the ‘normal’ UBM beach work, (including late afternoon family activities and some teenage/family evening events) together with ‘prom work’ (including serving drinks, a book table, question board and engaging passers by and onlookers in conversation). Several parents or grandparents we meet remember UBM from years gone by and are enthusiastic about our return to Scarborough.
