Overview

This delightful holiday resort, between the Great and Little Orme hills in North Wales was the birthplace of UBM back in the 1950s. Over the years, the Lord has richly blessed the work here in many ways. The evening Open Air meetings provide a good opportunity each night to share the gospel and sing hymns with mainly older people, and hear the team tell their stories of knowing Christ as their Saviour. Though the beach meetings with children do not draw the same numbers they used to, this centre continues to draw many families who want a quieter and perhaps more traditional summer holiday.

Alternative Programme for ‘Open- Air’ weeks (usually first two weeks)

Because the schools have not broken up for the summer holidays, the programme is very different to the rest of the season; we do no children’s work on the beach. We run like a ‘Christian Answer’ team with three small sub-teams; two on the prom and one in town. The two on the prom do personal work in two’s in the morning and afternoon, talking with folk wandering up and down the prom and sitting on the seats. This provides many profitable conversations, and also helps team members to grow in confidence in sharing the gospel one to one. The team in town often sets up by Llandudno Library with a literature table, and also engages in personal work with the many shoppers and passers-by in town.

For the rest of the season we do a more typical UBM program of Games Special in the late morning, and Holiday Special (our main children’s meeting) each afternoon. This usually starts with a tug-of-war, and finishes about an hour later with the team talking with parents and holidaymakers. As the beach is quite small we make valuable contact with families as the week goes on. In the evening we have our usual Open Air meeting which always seems to go well at this centre. There are two sites we tend to operate from – either by the slipway or by the entrance to the pier. There are many religious folk who tend to come to Llandudno, but sadly many don’t really know Christ as Lord and Saviour. Our meeting each night therefore is a wonderful opportunity to graciously share the gospel in a clear and personal way. We have tried a variety of other methods in the evening program - such as interviewing someone with an interesting testimony, having a Welsh Choir, inviting a Christian potter to bring his wheel, etc. Of course our own team often put together a Singing Group, so do bring a musical instrument if you can play one.
